Ideas on bullet resistant/proof vests

Does anyone have experience or a great recommendation on PROVEN vests that are a value? And secondly, where may such vests be purchased without getting totally screwed ???

I'm twitching for a vest ......!

TIA

This deterioration is accelerated by water/humidity/perspiration (vests get hot!) and has been responsible for issued vests failing to stop ballistic threats on many documented occasions. Contact shots have also been known to burn through them (brand new vests) like butter. Stick with 100% Kevlar or Twaron which have a proven record of working after decades of wear under most environments. Kevlar and Twaron are a little heavier and are more stiff but you may as well wear something that works. Another advantage is that Kevlar/Twaron can often be found at a lower price since it is considered "older" technology. Bx3

Kevlar is good. Spectra will bake you in your own juices, and tends to be stiff & "board-like."

AVOID AVOID AVOID any vest containing Zylon. That "wonder fiber" loses strength over time & after exposure to humidity. That problem, plus a lack of testicular fortitude and a sudden lack of corporate honesty, destroyed Second Chance Body Armor, which had been a most excellent supplier.

www.bulletproofme.com has a wide variety of vests at decent prices. You will need to decide what sort of vest you want. Either a super kewl Tacticool vest complete with ceramic plates, rated to stop the .753 Rhino-slapper round at a modest 35# total weight, or something more wearable.

I prefer a nice, thin, light weight Level IIA or Level II vest for concealed use. If you want something for use "around the house", heavier duty vests are available.
